Is there an echo in here in here ';to avoid paying avoid paying';?

Obtaining goods/services by deception is not a minor offence but if it's a first offence I would assume you'll get a fine and that will be it. I think the fine will be about 100 quid.

If they do decide to prosecute you for the deception it could be a lot more and you could get a criminal record.

This is a list of FAQ's for London Transport. I would assume it's similar for any train company:

If you avoided paying by avoiding paying then you paid and the conductor should have no problem. He got his. Tell it to the judge , that you avoided paying by avoiding paying. He'll understand and probably have some sympathy for you.
The charge would be as you say but the prosecutor will demand, Death by Hanging.
Next time just run. He can not legally hold you back, as he is not a cop.
